2870a72d0d Partially restore the lost C-mouse-2 drop-down menu 
This allows to pop up the Text Properties menu once facemenu is
loaded.  It still doesn't allow C-mouse-2 clicks without manually
loading facemenu; FIXME.

68ae6faa7f Improved light/dark colour predicate (bug#41544) 
Add a predicate, color-dark-p, for deciding whether a colour is more
readable with black or white as contrast.  It has experimentally been
shown to be more accurate and robust than the various methods
currently employed.

The new predicate compares the relative luminance of the colour to an
empirically determined cut-off value, and it seems to get it right in
almost all cases, with no value leading to outright bad results.

f18af6cd5c Audit use of lsh and fix glitches 
I audited use of lsh in the Lisp source code, and fixed the
glitches that I found.  While I was at it, I replaced uses of lsh
with ash when either will do.  Replacement is OK when either
argument is known to be nonnegative, or when only the low-order
bits of the result matter, and is a (minor) win since ash is a bit
more solid than lsh nowadays, and is a bit faster.

Prefer most-positive-fixnum to (lsh -1 -1).
* lisp/vc/vc-hg.el (vc-hg-state-fast): When testing fixnum width,

3589c966b7 Use Enriched mode in etc/HELLO to keep charset information 
This allows to encode HELLO in UTF-8, thus supporting the entire
repertory of Unicode, while still keeping the charset info where
that is important.  Suggested by Michael Welsh Duggan <mwd@md5i.com>.

bc511a64f6 Prefer HTTPS to FTP and HTTP in documentation 
Most of this change is to boilerplate commentary such as license URLs.
This change was prompted by ftp://ftp.gnu.org's going-away party,
planned for November.  Change these FTP URLs to https://ftp.gnu.org
instead.  Make similar changes for URLs to other organizations moving
away from FTP.  Also, change HTTP to HTTPS for URLs to gnu.org and
fsf.org when this works, as this will further help defend against
man-in-the-middle attacks (for this part I omitted the MS-DOS and
MS-Windows sources and the test tarballs to keep the workload down).
HTTPS is not fully working to lists.gnu.org so I left those URLs alone
for now.

fbb5531fa1 More-conservative ‘format’ quote restyling 
Instead of restyling curved quotes for every call to ‘format’,
create a new function ‘format-message’ that does the restyling,
and using the new function instead of ‘format’ only in contexts
where this seems appropriate.

* lisp/color.el (color-name-to-rgb): Rename from color-rgb->normalize.
Autoload.  Add optional arg FRAME, and pass it to color-values.
(color-complement): Caller changed.  Doc fix.
(color-gradient): Rewrite for better clarity and efficiency.
(color-rgb-to-hex): Rename from color-rgb->hex.
(color-rgb-to-hsv): Rename from color-rgb->hsv.  Force hue and
saturation to zero if the value is too small.
(color-rgb-to-hsl): Rename from color-rgb->hsl.
(color-srgb-to-xyz): Rename from color-srgb->xyz.  Doc fix.
(color-xyz-to-srgb): Rename from color-xyz->srgb.  Doc fix.
(color-xyz-to-lab): Rename from color-xyz->lab.  Doc fix.
(color-lab-to-xyz): Rename from color-lab->xyz.  Doc fix.
(color-lab-to-srgb): Rename from color-lab->srgb.  Doc fix.
