Yes, removing plist manpages broke this one, too. :)

Actually, this has been broken since asami's compress-all-the-manpages
commit on Nov. 18, _1996_. I'm beginning to suspect that more ports
are in like this...

It's not that ports/astro/* had no manpages to remove from their
...
PLISTs, it's just that none of the ones that do use the MANx
variables.
