Hartmut Brandt cffe7fcdef Remove a temporary variable. Rename pattern to patt to be consistent.
Remove unreachable code for VAR_NOSUBST - it was never set.
Replace redundant code with calls to VarGetPattern().

Patch: 7.143-7.145
