An incorrectly-sized allocation was being made due to an incorrect
argument to the `sizeof' operator.  Obvious, because it violated the
`foo = malloc(sizeof(*foo))' idiom.  Hard-to-see, because it was a
missing `*' (`*p' versus `**p').
